Tsunamis effects on earths spheres

The past two VESSS modules i have not yet shared with you all so here is the third module about tsunamis effects on earths spheres.

Abstract

Tsunamis are detrimental waves that are naturally formed primarily due to earthquakes. Tsunamis affect all of the earth’s spheres due to a positive feedback look that is initiated by tectonic plate movement above the liquid mantels surface. The oceanic and continental plates then either collide or overlap with one another and build up energy and when this energy is released an earthquake starts. When earthquakes happen on the ocean floor or near coastal towns a wave comes and destroys everything that is in its way, these waves can be extremely large and powerful depending on the magnitude of the earthquake. The effects of and event such as a tsunami are terrible for life forms on land due to a powerful wave striking unexpectedly, the biosphere in the region where the tsunami hits is in many cases destroyed or killed due to the powerful water movement that was initiated by the lithospheres plates. Events such as these take months if not years to heal from, trees and plants are uprooted, people and animals are killed, buildings are destroyed, and so much more.

Tsunamis Impact on the Earths Spheres

The naturally occurring event of a tsunami is many times detrimental to the places it affects. Tsunamis are generated by earthquakes in coastal regions; the earthquake is caused by shifts in the plates that are located on the mantel, after the earthquake a positive feedback loop begins. This positive feedback loop is not a positive thing, its affects are overall negative and detrimental to the things that are in its way. The earth’s dynamic interior causes a positive feedback loop between all four spheres by the heat within the mantel moving the plate’s located on top of it causing earthquakes to occur, and it all continues from there. Many times the effects of plate’s movement and energy releases take years to recover from.

Lithosphere The tectonic plates that are located on top of the mantels liquid surface move due to temperature changes in the mantel, the temperature changes cause shifts in the plates. When tectonic plates move and collide with other plates tension is built up between the two, this also is the case when oceanic plates slide under continental plates. When the tension between the plates is released an earthquake occurs, this causes a positive feedback loop. Earthquakes are many times deadly due to violent shaking of the earth’s surface causing building to fall, rocks to roll, cracks in the ground to form, and tsunamis to occur. The lithospheres plate movement causes the hydrosphere to create a wave, this creates a deadly force that many times hits land masses and destroys the biosphere in that region.

Hydrosphere Tsunamis are a result of earthquakes. The energy released from the tension buildup between the plates, that caused the earthquake, causes a wave to form in the ocean. The wave that forms, depending on the amount of energy released from the tension build up between the plates, can cause a large or small wave. The wave and its energy pull’s sea life along with it, once the wave reaches a land mass it destroys everything in its path. The life as well as buildings, water, plants, animals, and humans are either killed, destroyed, and/or polluted. The hydrosphere’s wave hits land and kills or severely damages the biosphere and its habitant’s habitats. Pollution of water due to the wave destroying things such as sewage facilities causes illness to spread through the water in the region.

Biosphere Life on land, as well as some aquatic life that region that washes on shore, perishing due to being washed away and/or being overwhelmed by water. The lithospheres event of tectonic plate movement causes the hydrosphere to create large-waves which then cause’s the biosphere to perish, be destroyed and/or polluted. The after effects of the tsunami are terrible, trees are uprooted, and animal habitats as well as human habitats are destroyed and plant life recovery takes years, many times the resilience of vegetation in regions where tsunamis have hit is very low, due to the soil being polluted, and it takes a very long time to set plants back into the region.

Atmosphere The wave caused by the earthquake is sometimes so powerful that it causes an atmospheric gravity wave to be sent up into the atmosphere in a layer called the ionosphere. However these waves only appear sometimes during tsunamis and are not constant. (Mustain, 2010)

Effects The effects of tsunamis are detrimental and take a very long time to recover from. Tsunamis have such a large effect on the land masses they hit due to the fact that it is abnormal and is a natural disaster that people, animals, and plants are unprepared for. The positive feedback loop that initially begins with the lithosphere and its plates shifting, colliding, and overlapping with one another to release immense amounts of energy into the hydrosphere causing a wave which then goes on to hit land and destroy and kill the biosphere in that region perpetuates a cycle of destruction and terror. Even the atmosphere is affected by tsunamis and the energy that is produced from the large wave of destruction. Technology is still progressive in finding a way to accurately predict earthquakes and tsunamis; with the technology that is available to us today prediction of tsunamis is within a small time period with little time to prepare for such a disaster as a tsunami.
