Module 1 APA Mission Paper

Module 1 APA Mission Paper

Your goal is to identify and describe a mission (past, present, or future) that has studied one of the four Spheres of the Earth (Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, Biosphere, or Atmosphere).

Research the following key characteristics of your chosen mission : This is what you will discuss in your paper.

  • Mission Subject: air, water, land, etc; including which sphere is the focus of the mission (Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, or Lithosphere)

  • Mission Objective: What is the science objective?

  • Mission Type: Spaceborne Satellite, Ground-Based Earth observation, weather balloons, ground-based equipment, airborne/aircraft measurements

  • Mission Users- Who will benefit?

  • Mission Duration- How long is the mission designed to collect data? How long did it take to get the mission launched? What is the timeline of the mission?

  • Mission Elements- Payload and Bus

  • Orbits/Altitudes- There are three main orbital types: Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium-Earth Orbit (MEO), High-Earth Orbit (HEO). What determined the orbit and altitude of the mission?

  • Mission Constraints- What are the limiting factors of the mission? Time? Cost? Schedule? Why>
